The Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions is seeking candidates for the position of Clinical Associate Professor of Performing Arts Administration. This individual will also direct the Graduate Program in Performing Arts Administration. The position begins on September 1, 2016.
The successful candidate will join a large, multifaceted, performing arts department with specializations in music performance (Jazz and traditional), music technology, music composition, songwriting, musical theatre, music business, arts administration, performing arts therapies, music education, dance education and educational theatre. Founded in 1971, the Performing Arts Administration program is a flagship program among the Department’s performing arts professions.
Qualifications
Candidates’ backgrounds may include degrees in one of the performing arts, business, law, or public administration, or one of the performing arts with backgrounds in teaching, administration, advisement, and mentoring arts administrators on and beyond the graduate level. The candidates must be interested in working collaboratively with other units at NYU, both in New York City and abroad. They must also demonstrate a working knowledge of the field of arts administration in the United States and an interest in collaborating with arts organizations around the world.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching graduate courses, placing, supervising and evaluating interns in arts organizations, leading key program seminars, overseeing research and master’s papers of program students, recruiting and hiring all adjunct faculty, screening applicants for the program, and speaking and writing on the program’s behalf in and outside the USA. As program director, the successful candidate will have responsibility for applicant recruiting and selection, intake and academic advisement, internship placement and supervision, supervision and oversight of independent studies and master’s theses, and the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of adjunct faculty of the program.
NYU’s dynamic Global Network University includes NYU Abu Dhabi, NYU Shanghai, and international programs and academic centers around the world. NYU Steinhardt faculty may have the opportunity to engage in research and teaching at these global study and research sites.
