Position Title: Manager of School and Teacher Programs
Position Description: The Manager of School and Teacher Programs oversees the Museum of Arts and Design’s School and Teacher Programs, which includes outreach to New York City public, private, and parochial schools. S/he also develops and maintains partnership programs with the Department of Education and cultural partners, creates professional development for teachers, leads MAD’s Teachers Advisory Committee, and the manages the development of interpretative resources. In addition, this position oversees and coordinates the Arts Reach in-school partnership with the Manhattan and Bronx Alternate Learning Centers. Specific responsibilities include:
- Develops, implements, and reports on all aspects of programs including marketing and outreach to schools, budget management, increasing the number of partnership schools and partnership activities, and tracking and reporting program activities and data to development.
- Management of Arts Reach – In-school partnership with The Alternate Learning Centers, a division of the Department of Education.
- Management of MADlab – On-site museum program for K-12 school groups
- Management of Teacher Institute, which includes professional development for teachers, MAD’s Teachers Advisory Committee and the development of interpretive resources.
- Administration – manages the school and teacher budget, trains and coordinates the educators and school programs related interns, and schedules and coordinates in-school partnerships.
- Works on special assignments as assigned by the VP of Education and Programs (e.g. Participation in inter-departmental initiatives, research, surveys, etc.)
Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Education, or related fields; Master’s preferred. S/he will also have 3 or more years of experience teaching full time in an art museum with K–12 audiences and at least 2 years of experience coordinating the activities of others that includes developing content, supporting materials, and implementing and evaluating programs. Strong administrative skills, budget management, problem solving and excellent writing skills are a must.
