Museum Educator [Children’s Museum of Manhattan, NYC]

Position Description:
Museum Educators facilitate a variety of museum-based programs including guided visits for school groups (pre-K—6th grade) and interdisciplinary workshops for families with young children in science, visual, and performing arts. Educators lead inquiry-based workshops, facilitate experiences in diverse exhibits, develop lesson plans, engage in customer relations, act as peer mentors, and assist in the supervision and maintenance of exhibition spaces. Museum Educators report directly to the Education Coordinators and attend mandatory professional development sessions as scheduled.
Qualifications:
– Undergraduate degree in early childhood, arts education, or museum education preferred. Students who are currently enrolled in related programs will be considered.
– Ability to engage with children and adults in a welcoming energetic, friendly, outgoing, and professional manner.
– Experience facilitating dynamic experiences with children ages 2-8.
– Ability to work with colleagues and families from diverse backgrounds.
– Strong background in art, science, music, dance, theater, and/or social studies.
– Comfortable making and facilitating visual art workshops using a variety of materials.
– Understand how to teach with museum objects, artifacts, and primary sources.
– Experience developing and implementing lesson plans.
– Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
– Proven ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities.
– Flexibility and ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
– Experience working in museums preferred.
– Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus.
Other Requirements:
– Attend professional development as scheduled.
– Background checks will be completed on all employees.
– Flexible schedule; some holiday and evenings required.

Salary: $15.00 per hour
