Job Description

The Knight Vice President of Learning Innovation is a member of the Museum’s Senior Staff and is responsible for the development and management of all educational activities within the Museum and those that serve the community at large. This position requires the development of innovative and inquiry-based approaches to serving a diverse audience of children, youth, adults and families in out-of-school STEM education, thus increasing people’s understanding of, enthusiasm for and ability to do science.

The Knight VP of Learning Innovation maintains the museum’s role as a leader in informal science education and must inspire, lead, and shape a world-class team of science educators, thus ensuring the museum’s continued excellence in promoting equal access to science and technology learning for all. Working closely with the VP for Content and Programs, she/he will help develop and promote the learning and interpretation goals of the various exhibition and program spaces within the museum (Living Core Aquarium + River of Grass, Planetarium + Feathers to Stars Gallery, Baptist Health People & Science Gallery, The Innovation Labs and Roof/Plaza/Trails interactive science exhibits). The Knight VP of Learning Innovation promotes leadership in new learning technologies and new ways to broaden and engage the museum public. She/he works closely with the Visitor Services department in the training and development of museum floor staff to insure high quality public interaction with museum exhibits and programs.

The Knight VP of Learning Innovation stays abreast of new developments in STEM education and policy, and with the SVP for Development identifies and cultivates funding opportunities that align with the Museum’s vision and goals. She/he contributes to the informal learning knowledge base through exploratory and experimental research, develops new and innovative approaches to learning and promotes science education at the museum and beyond through participation in local and national events and meetings, and by developing partnerships with industry, educational institutions, other museums and science and learning researchers.
