The Neuberger Museum of Art of Purchase College, SUNY (NMA) is seeking a candidate for the Associate Director of Development, Special Events and Initiatives (ADoD) position. The position entails contributing to and gaining experience in all aspects of advancement within a world-class museum and an arts and liberal arts campus of higher education. It reports to the Director of Development for the Neuberger Museum of Art (NMA). The NMA is the tenth largest college museum in the country and the premier museum of modern, contemporary art, art of the Americas and African art in Westchester and Fairfield counties. Along with a Performing Arts Center, a School of the Arts, and a School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Museum contributes to the college mission to provide an exceptional educational experience. The successful candidate realizes that advancement is a field that requires varied and cumulative experiences. The candidate is eager to provide instrumental support for planning, management, and production support for member and donor events and special initiatives. This includes prospect and donor engagement, event sponsorship and underwriting solicitation, event financial management and reporting, volunteer management, and overall support for the advancement activities of the NMA. This is an ideal position for a candidate who desires to grow their career in, and around, a highly-creative and philanthropic community, within a team of collaborative fundraising professionals in the centralized Office of Institutional Advancement. The candidate will have first-hand opportunities to engage in all facets of advancement work. Experience with Raiser’s Edge is essential. Night and weekend attendance at events is an essential component of this position, with most activities occurring during the Fall and Spring semesters.
Duties:
- Provide general support for all advancement activities within the Neuberger Museum of Art
- Manage all aspects of development events on and off-site, including annual fundraisers, member openings and special events, cultivation events for upper level donors, and regional, national and international art travel programs.
- Work closely with the DoD, other Museum staff and volunteer committees to plan, organize and evaluate an exciting year-round array of development events to promote, support, and further the fundraising efforts of the NMA.
- Enforce best practices and internal policies; strive for the highest standards in serving NMA donors and audiences
- Execute all aspects of development events, including: list preparation, invitations and programs, RSVPs, event worker scheduling, preparation, facilities coordination, valet, A/V, decor, food and entertainment
- Assist in the identification, solicitation and stewardship of event sponsors and underwriters, auction item donors and journal ad contributors
- Work with Designers, Marketing/PR and the Director of Digital Initiatives to market events to the broader public through advertising, direct mail, PR and social media
- Maintain all event budget information, including expense requisitions, invoices, gift entry procedures, acknowledgements and fulfillment
- Provide timely financial reporting and reconciliations
- Provide prospect/donor research briefs and giving history for the DoD, Museum Director and VP as required
- Provide support for NMA Board meetings, as needed position, with most activities occurring during the Fall and Spring semesters.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Degrees in Arts Management or Non-Profit Management a plus
- 3-5 years in advancement, event or related work
- Demonstration of exceptional judgment and superior people skills
- Articulate and enthusiastic about the visual arts
- Strong work ethic and ambition to further a career in an arts-related advancement field
- Detail oriented
- Solid Microsoft Office skills with an emphasis on Excel and mail merge
- Raiser’s Edge experience, essential
- Marketing and social media experience (Charity Buzz, Paddle8, Artsy), a plus
- Purchase College alumna/us, a plus
