Community Initiatives Coordinator

Summary: The Community Initiatives Coordinator is responsible for
developing, leading, and overseeing the Museum¹s Community Initiatives (Set
for School, Shelter Safe Play, and Breaking the Barriers programs) as well
as assisting with selected onsite and outreach programs.  This Coordinator
is C¹mon¹s liaison to numerous community partners, and works with them to
ensure C¹mon meets the needs of all children in Southwest Florida.  This is
a grant-funded position, renewable annually, currently funded by the Naples
Children and Education Foundation.

Reports to: Director of Education

Major Duties

Outreach and Community Programs

€Develops, implements, teaches, and evaluates a variety of
interdisciplinary Community Initiatives programs for children ages 3-12
based on the Museum¹s exhibits (estimated to be approximately 400 programs
per year), including:

oSet for School- The Set for School Initiative focuses on
preparing low-income young children for success in kindergarten through
hands-on                educational programs onsite and offsite that
utilize the ELLM Monthly Themes as well as parenting education nights

oShelter Safe Play- The Shelter Safe Play Initiative
focuses on meeting the behavioral and social skill needs of children ages
birth through twelve          living in or receiving treatment from
shelters in Collier County through monthly onsite and offsite programs.

oBreaking the Barriers- The Breaking the Barriers
Initiative focuses on providing additional time for children with
disabilities to learn how to use   the Museum as well as time for children
who could not attend the Museum during regular hours due to sensory issues
time to explore.

€Acts as the Museum liaison with over 20 partnering community organizations

€Acts as C¹mon representative and develops activities for community
outreach programs

€Responsible for the Community Initiatives portion of the education budget,
maintains outreach program supplies, and orders new supplies as needed

Other

€Trains Museum educators and volunteers in classroom management, teaching
practices, and on designated subject matter

€Cultivates partnership opportunities with local/regional community
organizations to maximize resources and enhance our program offerings

€Works with Director of External Affairs to publicize outreach and
community-based program offerings

€Assists Director of Education in writing grants related to offsite and
community-based programs

€Supervises part-time outreach educators

Qualifications

€             Bachelor¹s degree in education or related field is required;
master¹s degree preferred

€             Three- five years experience with education program
development and/ or teaching

€             Conversational Spanish or fluency required

€             Experience managing budgets

€             Must be outgoing, self-motivated and enjoy working with the
public

€             Excellent organizational skills

€             Excellent oral and written communication skills

€             Ability to work well with others and maintain professional
manner using tact, initiative, good judgment and confidentiality

€             Ability to work with people of all ages

€             Ability to juggle several projects at the same time

€             Ability to work independently with little supervision

€             Proficient in using the Microsoft Office Suite software,
Internet and email

€             Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings,
holidays and/or weekends

€             Must pass a background check and be fingerprinted

€             Must have reliable transportation as this position travels
very frequently to partnering sites (mileage reimbursed)
