Assistant Development Officer for Prospect Research

The Assistant Development Officer for Prospect Research works with the Deputy Chief Development Officer for Research & Strategic Planning and the Development Officer for Prospect Research in setting the Development Office’s prospect strategies; identifying potential new donors to the Museum; and preparing reports on individuals, companies, and foundations for the Museum’s Trustees, Senior Staff, and Development Officers, utilizing Lexis/Nexis and other online information databases.  Duties also include preparing prospect screenings for The Fund for the Met’s Trustee Steering Committee; maintaining prospect portfolios for special projects and presenting information and strategies to Senior Staff; prospect management of campaign prospects and donors through Development software system; identifying potential corporate funders of special exhibitions; analysis of business news relevant to fundraising efforts of the Museum; and handling special requests from Trustees, Senior Staff, and the Development Office.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
•Writing concise reports for Trustees and Senior Staff to assist fundraising efforts
•Identifying potential new donors for the Museum’s capital campaign
•Formulating prospect strategies for Trustees, Volunteers, and Senior Staff
•Maintaining and expanding prospect portfolios for capital projects and other funding initiatives
•Prospect management of prospects and donors for capital campaign through Development software system
•Identifying potential corporate sponsors for the Museum’s special exhibitions
•Analysis of news, financial, and business information relevant to fundraising efforts of the Museum
•Other related duties

Requirements and Qualifications:
Experience and Skills:
•Excellent writing, editing, analytical, and communication skills
•Two or more years of experience in Development Research; experience with Web-based research, SEC and financial documents, and online news retrieval systems; experience with Lexis-Nexis preferred
•Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
•Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
•Strong computer skills and experience with MS Office
•Experience with Pledgemaker or other major development software system; experience utilizing prospect tracking/prospect management functions of this software preferred
•Interest in current events and news related to business, finance, philanthropy, the arts etc.

Knowledge and Education:
•BA required
