Fellowship [Wolfsonian-FIU]

The Wolfsonian–FIU Fellowship program promotes scholarly research on The Wolfsonian’s collections. Since its inception in 1995, the program has supported projects from a wide range of academic fields. Fellowships are awarded for full-time research at The Wolfsonian, generally for periods of three to four weeks. Fellowships include a stipend, accommodations, and round-trip travel. The timing of dates will be negotiated with individual awardees. The program is open to holders of master’s or doctoral degrees, Ph.D. candidates, and to others who have a significant record of professional achievement in relevant fields. Scholars from outside of the United States are eligible. Fellowships are awarded without regard to race, color, gender, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, age, or disability.

The annual deadline is December 31 for a residency beginning no earlier than July 1 of the following year. Applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss their project with the Fellowship Coordinator prior to submitting proposals and submit their application online via The Wolfsonian–FIU Fellowship Application. The Wolfsonian belongs to the Association of Research Institutes in Art History (ARIAH), a consortium of museums and other institutions that support advanced research in the visual arts. For information on other ARIAH member institutions, visit the ARIAH website.

 

Sally Kress Tompkins Fellowship [National Parks Service]

The Sally Kress Tompkins Fellowship, a joint program of the Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) and the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), permits an architectural historian to work on a 12-week HABS project during the summer. The Fellow will either conduct research on a nationally significant building or site and prepare a written history to become part of the permanent HABS collection, or conduct research on a particular topic relating to architectural history in support of future HABS projects. The Fellow will be stationed in the field working in conjunction with a HABS measured drawings team, or in the HABS Washington, D.C. office. Recipients are also required to upload a minimum of 50 images to SAH’s SAHARA image database.

AWARD STIPEND

The award consists of a $10,000 stipend. The 2013 Tompkins award will be announced during the Society’s 66th Annual Meeting held in April in Buffalo, New York. The award also will be announced in the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians and the Newsletter of the Society after the presentation.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants should be pursuing graduate studies in architectural history or other related fields.

Museum Educator and Reservations Manager [The Bruce Museum]

The Bruce Museum promotes the appreciation and understanding of arts and

sciences to enrich the lives of all people. An art and science museum

located in Greenwich, Connecticut, 40 miles east of New York City just off

I-95 and steps from Metro North’s Greenwich train station.

 

The Bruce Museum seeks an energetic educator for an active education

department who will also manage the department’s program reservations.

Reservations Manager portion of this position is responsible for the

logistical coordination of the Museum’s tours, school, outreach, and after

school programs including the booking of reservations, sending of

confirmations and billing for programs provided by the Bruce Museum

Education Department.

 

The Museum Educator is responsible for teaching inquiry-based, art and

science school programs for both museum-based and outreach/Brucemobile

programs. This encompasses the ability to teach all programs as well as

develop new programs with assistance of Museum Education Department staff.

Additional responsibilities include maintenance of teaching materials and

responsibility for the use of the Museum’s two Brucemobile vehicles

(currently Toyota Highlander SUVs).

 

Teaching experience, and a Bachelor’s degree in education, science, art,

museum studies or related field, is required. Valid driver’s license,

unattended mobility in object handling, and the ability to drive the museum

vehicles and visit facilities unequipped to accommodate the physically

challenged are necessary.

Family Docent [Muse Education, Paris]

Muse Education, a small private educational company is seeking part-time docents, to lead English-speaking family visitors on museums tours and historical walks. Museum or classroom teaching experience with students between the ages of 6-18 is a requirement. The position is part-time with flexible hours, but requires a minimum commitment of 5-6 hours per week. Candidates should be Paris residents and have plans to live in the city for at least one year. Pay begins at 40 euros per hour, but the position requires a commitment of unpaid prep and training, to learn the program material.

 

 

The position requires the following qualifications:

 

• Extensive experience with Anglophone students, in either the classroom or museum.

 

• An ability to discuss art in an accessible jargon-free manner to younger museum audiences.

 

• MA in education, museum studies, art history, or history preferred.

 

• An outgoing personality and impeccable interpersonal skills.  There is a strong, social component to this position that requires guides to be at ease with a diverse range of museum visitors.

 

• Excellent verbal communication skills.

 

• A broad knowledge of French history and/or Western art history.

interdisciplinary lesson plans and curriculum for the Corcoran¹s

in-school

outreach program. This requires familiarity with DCPS standards of

learning

in a variety of curriculum areas.****

– Recruits, manages, writes contracts for, and evaluates teaching

artists who deliver the in-school outreach programs to the classrooms.

Organizes and delivers training on the Corcoran collection to the

teaching

artists so they are comfortable with presenting works to students and

teachers in the classroom and the galleries. Creates PowerPoint

presentations that place works from the Corcoran collection in context.**

– Works closely with the faculty and principals at the schools where the

Corcoran¹s in-school outreach program are presented; responsible for

matching teaching artists with school faculty. Orders supplies needed for

student projects. Visits each school to observe and evaluate programs.***
