Museum Educator****
The Chemung County Historical Society is looking to fill the post of Museum
Educator. The Society, founded in 1923, maintains its headquarters in
Elmira, NY and owns and operates the Chemung Valley History Museum and the
Booth Research Library & Archives. The Society currently has a permanent
staff of five, including the educator, and numerous volunteers to support
its mission and programming. ****
Over the past several months the Society has begun working with the local
school district as well as several other area museums, to better integrate
the education programming of the museum partners in to the everyday
curriculum of the school system. Planning is underway now with
implementation anticipated in the 2013/2014 school year. Moving this
project forward and expanding it to other nearby school districts will be a
priority project for the new Educator. The Educator also serves as Regional
Coordinator for National History Day and working to expand the presence of
this program will also be a priority. ****

Job Description****
· Develop and implement programming for all museum constituencies
including adults, families, and school children.****
· Supervise volunteer program****
· Supervise intern program****
· Audience development****
· Evaluation / assessment of programs****
· Grant writing for education department programs****
· Manage Education department budget****
· Serve as staff liaison to the Programming Committee****
· Implement segments of Strategic Plan as appropriate****
· Engage in professional development opportunities as appropriate***

· Assist other Society staff on development of exhibitions and
other projects as needed****
· And other such duties as may be required from time to time to
support the mission of the Society****
