Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Youth and Family Educator, the Assistant Youth and Family Educator is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and evaluation of public programs for children, teens, and family audiences, including the Martin ArtQuest gallery (MAQ). The Assistant Youth and Family Educator facilitates self-directed learning and art making experiences by visitors of all ages in the MAQ interactive gallery by actively working in the space, assisting in the development of activities, as well as scheduling the staffing and ordering of supplies.  The Assistant Youth and Family Educator supports the Youth and Family Educator in the operation of summer camp, serves as the primary contact for registration, and oversees the day to day operations of camp, including the needs of campers, their families, summer camp instructors and summer camp teaching assistants.  The Assistant Youth and Family Educator manages the art studios and keeps all necessary supplies stocked; works collaboratively with other education staff members and uses the highest level of interpersonal and communication skills to demonstrate excellent and outstanding customer service and volunteer relations. Evening and weekend hours are required, as well as administrative holidays.

Essential Job Functions:
• Work directly with the Youth and Family Educator to oversee the successful development, implementation, and evaluation of youth and family programs designed to build confidence and competence in looking at, thinking and talking about, and making art, including Martin ArtQuest gallery, summer art camp, family workshops, Family Festival Days, Artful Tales, ARTlab teen workshops, and MAQ Attack monthly teen night;
• Share content development, writing, and production responsibilities for MAQ stations;
• Maintain regular work schedule in MAQ to support daily function of the space;
• Responsible for coordinating the successful daily functioning of the MAQ space by scheduling of facilitators, on call workers, and volunteers;
• Responsible for ordering supplies and materials, including art supplies for summer camp sessions, MAQ materials, youth and family programs and the maintenance of studio supplies;
• Keep art supplies organized and well stocked at all times. Help prepare and distribute supplies efficiently and economically; maintain inventory of shared studio materials as necessary;
• Support Youth and Family Educator in development and management of teen programs, including maintenance of  social media communications, organizing teen advisory group meetings, implementation of programs;
• Supervise contract workers for youth and family programs, including MAQ facilitators and workers, volunteers, and interns, assisting with interview process and ongoing training of summer camp teaching assistants and teaching artists for youth and family programs;
• Support Youth and Family Educator in development and management of the Summer Art Camp program for youth – which includes identifying and managing camp personnel, overseeing content development and studio management, ordering supplies, taking reservations and processing pay, and running the day-to-day operations of camp;
• Work with volunteers as needed across youth and family programs to ensure quality programming;
• Ensure the safety and health of the public are provided for at all on-site Center public programs and events;
• Accept projects as assigned by supervisor.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in museum education, museum studies, art education, or studio art required; Master’s degree preferred.

Work Experience: Must have 2–3 years of experience working with children and families in an informal learning environment.

Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of current object-based pedagogy and teaching and learning strategies for art education;
• Ability to manage programs, and facility preparations and arrangements for small and large groups;
• Knowledge and experience in planning, preparation, and implementation of workshops, summer camp, and public event programming;
• Knowledge of educational programming for various intergenerational audiences, including children and teens;
• Experience working with audiences of all abilities;
• Ability to write and communicate clearly for youth and family audiences;
• Ability to contribute creatively in a team-oriented workplace;
• Ability to select priorities, organize and inspire organization in the work of others;
• Ability to work effectively with people on a personal level, with tact and diplomacy;
• Well-versed and at ease in current computer applications.
