The Norton Museum of Art seeks an Assistant Curator of Education for Public Programs, a full time, exempt position reporting the Curator of Education.
The successful candidate:
Public Programs
works with Curator of Education and collection curators to plan and host lecture series and other public programs, including panels and symposia; offers several public lectures, gallery talks, and tours on diverse aspects of the Museum Collection / special exhibitions; assists Curator of Education with concerts, film series, and other programs.
Docent Program
trains and manages docents, from interviewing candidates to offering performance evaluations; leads docent training and continuing education programs with other staff; serves as staff liaison with Docent Advisory Council; prepares docent calendar and monthly newsletter; creates and distributes informational handouts for exhibitions and Museum Collection; coordinates efforts with Program and Volunteer Coordinator.
Technology
develops and implements interactive technologies for audiences in the Museum; researches and writes cell tour scripts and for other technology platforms.
College Outreach
promotes nationally, recruits for, and manages 7-week Norton Summer Intern Program for four college students; serves as liaison with college administrators and faculty to increase college touring and use of the Museum.
Skills
must be an excellent communicator, both through writing and public speaking; proficient at Microsoft Office and be willing to learn and adapt to new software, including Volgistics and Siriusware; an enthusiastic team player, able to balance roles as an administrator and teacher in a stimulating and busy work environment.
Education: M. A. in Art History required.
Salary: low 40s
