Reporting to the Associate Director for Advancement and External Affairs, the Head of Communications and Marketing is responsible for developing strategic communications plans to build awareness about the Yale Center for British Art, including collections, exhibitions, programs, and resources, as well as to increase visitation from target audiences. Working with colleagues, this position will identify specific target audiences, determine and execute a strategy for reaching them, and implement ways to grow and diversify such audiences. The position will create an integrated marketing and communications strategy to deliver the institution’s key messages across multiple platforms, including print and online, to the general public, as well as and university and scholarly communities nationally and internationally. This position collaborates with Yale’s Office of Public Affairs and Communication to promote and support the Center’s overall mission.
The position works with print, broadcast, and digital media, and develops long-term partnerships with writers, editors, designers, corporate sponsors, cultural organizations, state agencies, and other museum supporters. The position also oversees visitor services, marketing research and analysis, directs advertising campaigns, and coordinates the tri-annual Calendar of Events. The position works with curators, visiting scholars, and Yale faculty to promote significant projects and synthesize academic ideas and exhibition concepts to create stories for press and social media. The position is responsible for training staff for press events, media tours, interviews, and multimedia projects. This position organizes national and international press launches in New York and London to announce projects for the coming year, and organizes press trips and media previews for major exhibitions.
The position manages internal communications for effective flow of news and information with Center staff, as well as crisis communications for the Center. The position supervises a Communications and Marketing Associate; a Visitor Services/Information Volunteer Coordinator; and student workers/interns. Additionally, the Head of Communications and Marketing chairs the Media, Technology, and Website Committee, and is responsible for management of the Center’s website as well as its online engagement and social media program.
