Job Description
The Editor reports directly to the Nancy and Bob Magoon CEO & Director and works closely with the curatorial staff, marketing, development, and design teams to edit and coordinate written content for all of the museum’s publications, print materials, and digital platforms. This includes, but is not limited to exhibition catalogues and brochures, didactic and marketing materials, education resources, printed office materials, and online content. He/she works with the print production team as well as the senior staff to set priorities, procedures, schedules, and budgets for the generation of content.
Duties
The Aspen Art Museum maintains an ambitious exhibition catalogue and brochure publishing program, and the Editor works with the curatorial staff and design team to establish the concept, content, and style for each publication; edits manuscripts and coordinates the illustration and rights clearance process with the curatorial and design staff; and ensures that all deadlines are met by contributing authors, contract editors, and designers. The Editor is responsible for the line-editing, final copy editing, and related activities for all generated content.
The Editor works with the curatorial and education staff to edit copy for in-gallery materials, including wall texts, maps, and other didactic material. The Editor will also be responsible for editing of advertisement and marketing materials, including invitations, advertisements, postcards, flyers, and electronic communications related to exhibition projects, as well as the museum’s promotional cards, biannual Member’s Magazine and benefit event programs. Additionally, the Editor coordinates the production and editing of content for the museum’s website and other online media, and will work with the graphic design team to update content regularly.
