The University at Buffalo Art Galleries seeks a visionary curator specializing in modern and contemporary art, who is responsible for researching organizing, interpreting and communicating curatorial activities for UB’s Art Gallery, in the Center for the Arts. The candidate must be innovative, team-oriented and highly motivated with demonstrated scholarship and excellent oral and written communication skills. The associate curator reports to the director and works closely with the registrar and assistant director of collections and exhibition, and curator of education.
Job Requirements
Master’s degree required, Ph.D. preferred. Minimum two years curatorial experience. Demonstrated scholarship and excellent oral and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
Conceptualize and organize exhibitions and related programs that examine cultural and socio-political topics informing current art practice
Develop curatorial projects that engage faculty and students across the university campus
Participate in dialogues with professional colleagues and community organizations that initiate partnerships and collaborations both at the university and within the community
Assist director and university development to seek funds outside the university in support of exhibitions, programs and publications
Participate with communication efforts for UB Art Galleries through local and national press and other social media
Work with curator of education to develop educational initiatives that serve the university and diverse public audiences
Provide opportunities for faculty, students and professionals from within and outside of the university to participate in the curatorial program as artists, writers, poets, curators, etc.
Work with faculty to develop exhibitions or programs that are integral to their curriculum and practices.
