The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium seeks a professional level staff member to oversee the strategic growth and day-to-day operations of youth and family programs both at the Museum & Aquarium. Well qualified candidates must be energetic, flexible, resourceful, and with an entrepreneurial attitude to create and present exciting programs for a broad audience.
Job Requirements
Primary Duties
Support the Museum & Aquarium’s mission by overseeing, strengthening, and growing a successful suite of fee-based programs including summer camps, out-of-school time programs, scout workshops, and themed educational events.
Responsible for the recruitment, supervision, and training of part-time and seasonal education staff, volunteers, and interns.
Effectively manage departmental operating budget.
In collaboration with Development staff, create funding proposals for education programs.
Work with other Museum & Aquarium departments to develop robust programmatic offerings.
Work with area institutions to develop collaborative public programs.
Instruct programs as necessary.
Keep abreast of current informal education research and best practices.
Maintain and supervise the Education Department’s teaching collection and supplies.
Maintain professional conduct at all times with Museum staff and the public.
Experience
Bachelor’s degree in environmental education, zoology, biological sciences, or history related field.
Working knowledge of informal education in camps, museums, aquariums, zoos, nature centers or similar environmental education or living history facility.
Excellent educational program and curriculum development skills.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with Museum & Aquarium staff, school administrators, teachers, students, parents and public groups in a professional, pleasant, tactful, and enthusiastic manner.
Willingness to work evenings and weekends when necessary
