The Peabody Essex Museum, one of the largest and most dynamic art museums in the nation, is seeking a creative, highly talented Director of Communications and Content Strategy to join our team. Under the direction of the Chief Marketing Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the museum’s communication program and external content strategy. Responsibilities for this position include:
· Support the museum’s institutional goals by providing strategic direction on leveraging current content and creating new content to elevate the PEM brand nationally and internationally.
· Lead the existing public relations program and team, continue to build media contacts locally, regionally and nationally, with a new focus on building relationships with national and international audiences, cultural “tastemakers,” online influencers and artistic innovators.
· Optimize all communications and content for mobile, local, and international audiences.
· Working with the CMO and the marketing communications team, continue to help refine the appropriate PEM brand voice online and offline.
· Support short, medium, and long-term Development/Advancement goals. Oversee communications strategy for museum’s Advancement campaign.
This position has two direct reports.
Qualifications:
A BA/BS in liberal arts, communications, art history, journalism or other areas requiring significant development of verbal and oral skills is required. Graduate degree in fine arts, museum studies or communications highly desirable. A strategic thinker with the ability to connect content and PR programs with marketing and institutional objectives. Can work with ease in multiple subject areas; produce communication materials for diverse media. Knowledge of crisis communication practices. Experience with leveraging institutional goals through social media platforms. Knowledge of how media entities operate and function, including recent and emerging trends. A minimum of six years experience in the field of public, relations/communications with at least three of those years in a management role.
