Telfair Museums in historic Savannah, Georgia, is seeking applicants for the inaugural Middleton Curatorial Fellowship. The Fellow will participate in the organization and presentation of temporary exhibitions and will assist the Curator of Fine Arts and Exhibitions in managing an ambitious schedule of changing exhibitions and a permanent collection of more than 5,000 objects.
Responsibilities include ongoing research of works in the collection; conducting scholarly research pertinent to upcoming or potential exhibitions; disseminating information to other departments; writing text panels, label copy, and other educational materials for collections and exhibitions; adopting existing written materials for various internal and external needs; providing assistance with curatorial correspondence and loan negotiations; and tracking interdepartmental needs and responsibilities for changing exhibitions.
The fellow will plan and complete an exhibition project in consultation with his/her supervisor and will deliver a public lecture based on the research conducted during the course of the fellowship.
The Middleton Curatorial Fellow will be a paid a competitive stipend, and eligible for regular full-time, non-exempt employee benefits. This is a two-year fellowship. Relocation expenses will not be paid.
Requirements
Master’s degree in art history or a related field
Graduate degree completed no earlier than May 2012
Excellent writing and interpersonal skills
Preference given to applicants with curatorial experience
