The Trustees are looking for a Curatorial Fellow to join the organization’s curatorial team in the study and care of the more than 20,000 objects located within our many diverse historic homes, ranging from modest 18th century houses to opulent 20th century estates.

The Trustees of Reservations’ curatorial resources include archives, buildings, landscapes, ruins and artifacts covering hundreds of years of human history.  In the historic houses, at the Archives & Research Center (ARC), and in the land itself, TTOR preserves the landscapes and material culture of Massachusetts people.

Working with colleagues in the curatorial department, the Fellow will work on the inventorying and cataloguing of objects at several properties, including Castle Hill, Stevens-Coolidge Place, Naumkeag, and the Old Manse. In addition, the Fellow will play a role in the re-visioning and reorganization of collection storage at our Archive and Research Center (ARC) in Sharon, MA.

The Fellow will also conduct a curatorial research project on a mutually agreed-upon topic to add to our understanding of the TTOR collection, with the hope it will also add to the Fellow’s scholarship portfolio.

This is an opportunity to be part of a dynamic state-wide institution. The Fellow will work closely with the entire curatorial team, and will report to the Senior Curator.

Qualifications:
Required Experience and Education

This position is open to recently-graduated museum professionals who have received a graduate degree in museum studies, material culture, art history, public history, history, or other related fields. The Fellow should have some collections management and database experience, and an understanding of decorative arts objects and care. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and strength in oral and written communications, including building a strong collaborative working environment.

Benefits, Work Schedule and Salary

This is a one year paid fellowship, with an optimal start-date between October and December 2014. This full-time position can be based out of the ARC in Sharon or the Crane Estate in Ipswich, and will consist of a five day work week with additional site-travel and nights or weekends occasionally requested.  The Fellow will receive a stipend of $25,000. In addition, the Fellow will receive a modest travel stipend to attend conferences and workshops in order to enrich his/her professional development. As a full time employee, the Fellow is eligible for benefits offered by The Trustees, including: medical insurance, dental insurance, disability and life insurance, vacation, sick, and personal time, and the option to participate in our 401(k) plan.

How To Apply:
Please submit a resume and letter to Christie Jackson, Senior Curator at cjackson@ttor.org. Please add “Curatorial Fellowship” in the subject line.
