Title: Director, Corporate Relations
Department: Corporate Relations
Reports To: Vice President of Development
Hours: Full Time Regular, Monday- Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm, 35 hours per week

Description: 
The Director of Corporate Relations leads closely aligned and pivotal fundraising initiatives for the New England Aquarium, including corporate membership and sponsorship programs. Program success is measured through actual dollars received against goals set annually as well as personal and team achievement of visit and solicitation metrics. Success is also measured by the maintenance and expansion of a robust prospect pipeline with capacity for continuous contacts/conversations with prospects and donors.

Duties:
Leadership and Management 
• Oversee all aspects of the Corporate Relations program, assuring highly-productive corporate membership and sponsorship programs, and stewardship and engagement of the corporate constituency. Develops and implements programs to ensure high satisfaction and retention levels of existing corporate partners and members.
• Create a strategic plan to maintain and expand a robust pipeline of potential corporate members, sponsors and other donors toward increasing annual unrestricted and restricted contributed income from corporate sources.
• With VP of Development, sets visit and dollar metrics for corporate gift officers and tracks progress on a routine basis. Determine prospect pool for each giving officer. Manages a portfolio of corporate donors, achieving a pre-determined target of face-to-face cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship visits per year, and fulfills a solicitation (ask) goal as outlined in each fiscal year.
• Establish and maintains relationships with business and industry constituencies who may serve as key liaisons or partners in identifying and securing corporate support. With VP of Development and fellow directors, identify and cultivate new constituencies for potential inclusion in the corporate giving pipeline.
• Engage Aquarium staff, volunteer leadership, CEO, COO/CFO, and VPs as appropriate in developing and presenting opportunities for corporate sponsorships, partners, and other initiatives. In collaboration with the Director of Marketing, identify and develop cause-related and other marketing opportunities and partnerships with corporate prospects.
• With VP and fellow directors and gift officers, work toward maximizing cross-organizational collaboration toward comprehensive gift strategies for major and leadership gift prospects.
• In collaboration with VP, fellow directors, and communication & marketing staff, create corporate members and donor materials expressly designed for corporate members, sponsors and donors.

Program Planning and Budget 
• As a member of the senior development team, participate in the development of strategic long-term plan for sustained program growth and contributed income, including capital and mini-campaigns and other targeted or special initiatives.
• Develop an annual operating plan for Corporate Relations, detailing the action plan in support of monetary goals, including metrics for performance of program and team members.
• Recruit corporate relations staff as positions become vacant and/or staffing expands; supervise the hiring and orientation process. Mentor officers, including providing opportunities for in-house and outside professional development.
• Work with Development Systems re: prospect tracking, management, research and reporting; and best practices regarding gift acceptance.
• Provide regular and special reports to Aquarium and volunteer leadership, as appropriate.

Qualifications:

Qualifications: 
Minimum Training and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree preferable.
• A minimum of eight years of demonstrated success in corporate relations and/or corporate philanthropy, preferably in a non-profit or academic setting. Of those years, a minimum of three to five years of demonstrated success in securing contributed income from the corporate and business sectors required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated success in managing corporate relations programs including sponsorship and membership, meeting overall programmatic unrestricted and restricted goals.
• Proven ability to establish and maintain robust relationships with corporate leadership and representatives on behalf of the Aquarium, including the ability to negotiate agreements on behalf of the Aquarium, as and when appropriate.
• Non-profit or higher education experience required.
• Highly effective oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills
• Strong strategic and analytic skills, demonstrated problem-solving ability;
• Campaign experience preferred, including experience in design of comprehensive prospect pipelines for corporate and business sectors.
• Proven leadership experience working with senior level executives.
• Commitment to the non-profit sector, as well as the mission and values of the Aquarium.
• Ability to travel predominantly within New England, but occasionally within the USA;
• Knowledge of and experience with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge preferred.
