Battleship Cove, the nation’s largest collection of historic naval vessels, has a unique retail management opportunity for an energetic, organized, creative professional with strong people and communication skills. This position operates in a fast-paced environment and is responsible for managing a museum store whose inventory includes books, educational games and toys, jewelry and other products related to the collections, exhibitions and programs of the museum.
Reporting directly to the Director of Communications and Visitor Experience, the Store Manager is responsible for the overall operation and performance of the Museum Store and Visitor Center, which includes: sales, visual merchandising, operations, staff selection and supervision, training and development, a high level of customer service, loss prevention and adherence to all company guidelines and procedures to ensure efficient daily operations. The Store Manager is fully accountable for the success of the Store and Visitor center, driving sales and profitability while directing all aspects of operations. The Store Manager must create an environment that encourages the customer’s desire to buy and increase repeat visitation and membership to the institution.

Qualifications:

  •       Minimum of five years experience in purchasing, visual merchandising, customer service and inventory control.
  • A minimum of five years proven retail management experience (preferably in a non-chain environment), including direct reports, sales associates and back of house positions.
  • Experience in exploring and execution of unique branding opportunities.
  • Marketing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide feedback with strong verbal and written communication skills; encouraging excellent sales performance.
  • Must be customer focused.
  • Detail oriented with an eye for trends.
  • Able to build relationships in order to foster teamwork and develop partnerships.
  • Strong computer skills, including POS and excel. Knowledge of e-commerce platforms a must.
  • Ability to actively supervise the sales floor.
  • Experience working in a museum environment, or in a store with similar merchandise lines preferred.
  • Some lifting is required.
  • Ideal candidate should be equally comfortable in fast-paced and relaxed environments.
