The Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability has an exciting opportunity to launch a new program that will work with Science and Technology Museums to integrate sustainability science, practice, and education into their activities. The program will begin with two beta sites in FY15, the California Academy of Sciences and the Arizona Science Center, and expand to other sites and develop a virtual education platform over time. Under general direction, develops, coordinates and manages the creation and implementation of the Sustainability in Science Museums program of the Rob and Melani Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives (WSSI). Reports to the Executive Director of the Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives.

Essential Duties   
In collaboration with relevant ASU and WSSI staff and faculty, develops and implements detailed business plan including staffing model, budget allocation, work plan, and metrics.

Organizes and facilitates initial input and continuing engagement of high-level task force including museum administration specialists, researchers, curators, informal science professionals, sustainability educators, and sustainability scientists and scholars.

Develops detailed work plans for each activity; ensure timely delivery and quality of services, products, projects, and performance of consulting teams.

Organizes and conducts workshops, presentations, and trainings for museum administrators, professionals and teachers.

Coordinates and supervises work of program consultants and staff including (but limited to) program evaluator, project coordinator, and graduate students.

Coordinates with and leverages the resources of ASU including the School of Sustainability, the Sustainability Education Outreach Programs, and 300 Sustainability Scientists and Scholars, of the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability, Center for Science and Policy Outcomes, Museum Studies and other programs which are also a part of the Walton Initiatives.

Monitors progress and prepares regular reports on established metrics and outcomes of the Walton Sustainability in Museums Program.

Assists in the development and cultivation of future funding streams from corporations, foundations and individuals and write funding proposals and grant submissions.

Participates in the appropriate professional and community organizations that deal with educational programs and activities, and serves as a representative of the University at international, state, regional and national organizations, boards, councils, conferences and university committees as assigned.

Working Environment  

This position will require occasional travel. General office setting in climate controlled area; travel to various ASU departments; use of computers and office equipment; work independently using good judgment.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND five years administrative/coordination experience; OR, Master’s degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND three years administrative/coordination experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications  
Demonstrated experience:
Master’s degree or Ph.D. in science, museum studies, or relevant field preferred. Work experience at a science museum with a strong research program preferred.

Experience in informal science education, program evaluation, science and technology museum professional, working with high-level faculty and staff, launching new programs.

Knowledge of: ASU programs, policies, and project management processes.

Demonstrated commitment to: diversity, sustainable practices and cultural differences.

Evidence of the ability to: mobilize support for educational goals, communicate effectively, solve problems and make decisions using sound judgment in execution of daily tasks.
