The Development Officer, Museum Council, reporting to the Director, Annual Programs, oversees the Museum Council Program, and is an integral member of the Annual Programs team. The Museum Council is the MFA’s young supporters group for members ages 21-45. The Development Officer directs all aspects of the Museum Council Program; soliciting memberships, overseeing the Council event program, cultivating long-term relationships with Boston’s young professionals, managing and directing membership initiatives, identifying and stewarding future philanthropists, and creating development strategies for meeting fundraising goals of the Museum Council. Essential functions include: oversee, manage and participate in solicitation of new, renewing and upgrading Museum Council members to achieve established revenue goal; create program budget for fiscal year and ensure the program meets its revenue and membership goals; monitor and manage all budget priorities including tracking finances through monthly and annual general ledger reports; support the efforts of the Museum Council Steering Committee; plan and execute all Museum Council events throughout the year; coordinate and facilitate all aspects of the planning and execution of The Summer Party, the annual fundraising gala sponsored by the Museum Council; oversee confidential donor records and files, ongoing data management needs, report tracking of fundraising progress; ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation of all gifts and budget.
35+ hours/week. Mon-Fri, 9:00am-5:00pm; additional evening and weekend hours as needed for events.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, plus a minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in Development and/or program management. Additional requirements include: exceptional organization skills and a demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks fluidly; high degree of social sensibility and diplomacy; excellent interpersonal communication skills; poise, maturity, flexibility, initiative and ability to work as a team player essential; highly creative, with the ability to generate new ideas; strong skills in trouble-shooting and problem-solving; ability to handle delicate and confidential material; ability to succeed in a complex and demanding environment; willingness to work beyond normal working hours for events, meetings, or as otherwise required.
