Founded in 1984, The Contemporary Jewish Museum promotes and celebrates the diversity and vitality of contemporary Jewish art and culture. The Museum, which is a non-collecting institution, actively attracts a diverse group of visitors through its programming and outreach, consistent with its mission of making the Jewish experience relevant for a 21st-century audience. Since 2008 the Museum has welcomed nearly 700,000 visitors, mounted 32 exhibitions, and provided educational programming for over 100,000 children, youth and family members.
The Contemporary Jewish Museum is seeking an experienced COO to manage the financial, administrative, and operational functions of the organization. The chief operating officer will work closely with the leadership team and the Board of Trustees and will be a strategic partner to the Executive Director, identifying growth opportunities and offering innovative solutions to move the organization forward.

Job Requirements
Major Responsibilities
Support and advise the Executive Director and provide guidance to the Board of
Trustees in decision making and in fulfilling the mission of the Museum.
Direct and manage administrative, financial, and operational functions of the
Museum including facilities, security, engineering, health and safety, information
systems, and human resources.
As the chief financial officer, play a key role in elevating the Museum’s financial
management ensuring the integrity of and control over the Museum’s financial
systems, including accounting, budgeting, reporting, financial modeling and taxexempt
bonds. Monitor the Museum’s investment portfolio; providing support to the
Audit, Finance, and Investment Committees.
Work closely with senior staff in planning and developing methodologies to meet
earned revenue goals.
Manage smooth daily operations of physical plant and equipment, facility rentals
and café operations, capital improvements, maintenance and repair while ensuring
the health and safety of staff and visitors.
Manage the Museum’s human resource function, including organizational
structure, staffing, compensation; benefits; professional training and development;
development of retention strategies; regulatory oversight and legal compliance.
Develop a strategic approach to risk management that identifies and proactively
addresses the organization’s risks and opportunities. Specifically, s/he will
identify the relevant risks and opportunities, assess the likelihood and magnitude
of these events occurring, determine a response strategy and monitor progress.
The CFO will create the appropriate policies, processes and training to ensure a
strategic approach to risk management

Represent the museum to city government and agencies as needed and as related
to Yerba Buena/Jesse Square/ and other civic projects
