Title: Temporary Communications and External Affairs Associate
Status: Temporary; Non-Exempt. This position is budgeted for 16 weeks, from February 1 –June 1 at approximately 35 hours/week. Dates are approximate.
Location: Brookline, MA
The Temporary Communications and External Affairs Associate is responsible for supporting the Communications and External Affairs team in the areas of email marketing, content production, media monitoring and reporting, press outreach, and other projects as assigned. S/he will interface with many departments and initiatives across the organization to insure timely flow of work and coordination of activities within special projects and across the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Schedule and gather content for emails
- Create media alerts and press releases; conduct appropriate follow-up
- Log news hits in Vocus (online media monitoring system)
- Write and post news items for facinghistory.org
- Update and maintain Vocus database
- Compile weekly emails on press hits and communications activities
- Assist Managing Editor with Facing History’s social media presence
- Provide key support for the administrative needs of the Communications Team, including invoice processing
Qualifications:
- BA/BS required
- 3-5 years of work experience, preferably in education/non-profit settings preferred
- Experience with email marketing, media and press outreach, and social media
- Proficiency with MS Office
- Excellent oral, written, and phone communication skills
- High level of organization and attention to detail
- Ability to work individually and as a member of a team; flexibility
- Interest in, and ability to articulate, the mission of Facing History and Ourselves
- Experience with Drupal and/or Vocus a plus
