Job Description
Researches, develops and implements science programming and interpretive materials for a variety of Museum audiences, including grade levels pre-K through 12, college/university, families, and general Museum visitors. Provides direct assistance in developing and sustaining a collaborative relationship between and among the Museum’s collection, Innovation Gallery, Studio, Hot Glass Shows and Rakow Research Library.

Responsibilities:
- With the Director of Education and Interpretation, Science Curator, Chief Scientist and education department staff, develops and implements engaging informal science education events, programs and tours.
- With the Curator of Science and Technology and the Chief Scientist, develops educational science content for exhibitions and related programs.
- With the Youth & Family Programs Educator develops and implements teen programs that address the science of glass.
- With the Youth & Family Programs Educator cultivates community involvement and maintains relationships with educational agencies.
- Plans, manages and administers the Museum’s Junior Scientist Program.
- Identifies and communicates with potential community partners and presents and/or participates in off-site events.
- Pro-actively serves as a resource for information on the science of glass for guests, docents, volunteers and staff.
- Uses appropriate technologies and techniques to expand access to knowledge and self-directed learning for audiences both in the Museum and online, and to further the Museum’s educational goals, content and concepts.
- Develops informal science educational materials to be used in Museum galleries, on the Museum’s website and with school groups.
- Represents the Museum and its Education Department at professional conferences, activities and is collegial in relationships with other museum professionals.
Qualifications:
- Minimum three years in science museum and/or general education. Experience working with children, teens, youth, families, teachers, and schools.
- Bachelor’s degree in physics, chemistry, or engineering disciplines.
- Graduate degree in museum education or general education field.
- Ability to translate scientific principles and language to a diverse audience including children.
- Evidence of competence in interdisciplinary thinking, planning, writing and learning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to speak in front of groups and represent the museum professionally.
- Demonstrated currency with technology, social media, mobile devices and museum- and business-related software.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and successfully interface with all Museum departments.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends and/or evenings as necessary.
