The Department of History and American Studies at the University of Mary Washington, a selective, state-assisted institution located in Fredericksburg 50 miles south of Washington, D.C., invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in American Studies with a specialization in public history to begin August 2016.

Completion of a PhD in American Studies or US History with a focus on public history is required by August 2016.

Applicants must demonstrate an ability to teach the core courses in the American Studies curriculum, including an introduction to American Studies and a sophomore/junior seminar, and contribute lecture courses and seminars to the History major and Museum Studies minor. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching and have a strong commitment to directing undergraduates in independent research.
