Description

The Northampton County Historical and Genealogical Society (NCHGS), Easton, Pennsylvania, seeks a dynamic, visionary leader to serve as Executive Director. The ideal candidate will have an energetic personality to rally community support and inspire fresh ideas to result in increased visitation and engagement. The ED reports to the Board of Governance to advance the mission through oversight of programs; supervision of personnel; operation of the Library and Museums and preservation of their collections; and development and financial oversight.

Responsibilities
INNOVATIVE LEADER & CREATIVE THINKER

  • Inspires and leads a collaborative environment which develops educational programs, events, and exhibits; encourages out-of-the-box thinking and problem solving; creates an atmosphere that invites volunteer spirit and inspires members and others to give their time and talent to the benefit of the Society; engages members in the participation in Society’s activities and volunteer opportunities, and actively promotes the value and benefits of Society membership. Recruits paid staff members and performs regular performance evaluations.

PUBLIC LIAISON

  • Promotes mission of NCHGS, its exhibits, and museum programs through strong community outreach, publicity and interaction with and throughout the County; Networks with local and regional community to establish and build important community relationships. Maintains a working knowledge of significant developments and trends that may be relevant to NCHGS.

FUNDRAISING AND DEVELOPMENT

  • Develops fundraising strategies, including public and private grants, sponsorships, donations and membership to ensure adequate operating funds and building of endowments.

FINANCIAL OFFICER

  • Works with the Board of Trustees and committees to assure the mission, vision, and financial goals of NCHGS are met via the success of programs, events, and exhibits; maintains sound financial practices, prepares and oversees annual budget, and ensures the Society operates within budgetary constraints.
Requirements
Qualifications and Skills

  • The successful candidate must have a proven track record of creative management and leadership in program development in the museum or non-profit sector;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with volunteers and staff that enhance the mission of NCHGS within the community and among individuals;
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, especially in grant writing and public speaking;
  • Museum experience and/or must posses a passion in history and genealogy, and a dedication to move the society forward in sustainable, positive directions;
  • Strong fundraising skills with the ability to design and oversee campaigns and close major donor gifts when needed.
  • Clear understanding of budgets, financial reports and investments;
  • Familiarity with public relations and marketing;
  • Strong administrative and staff management experience;
  • Ability to manage day to day facilities operations and event planning;
  • Skilled leader with the ability to manage volunteers and develop high performance teams.
Salary and Benefits
Negotiable and commensurate with experience.

Northampton County is home to two of the top ten voted “Best Cities to Live In Pennsylvania.” NCHGS is headquartered at the state-of-the-art, 33,000 square foot Sigal Museum in historic downtown Easton,PA also home to the Jane S. Moyer Library & Archives. The Sigal Museum and other Society properties – the 1807 Jacob Nicholas House Museum, the 1833 Mixsell House & Textile Museum, and the 1753 Bachmann Publick House -house one of the most impressive historical society collections in the country.
