We are seeking highly motivated and outgoing part-time Exhibition Interpreters to provide a wide range of experiences for the museum’s upcoming temporary exhibition, PlayTime, on view from February 10 – May 6, 2018. PlayTime is the first major thematic exhibition celebrating the role of play in contemporary art and culture. Forty works by twenty leading contemporary artists—including large-scale installations, sculpture, photographs, video, and tactile interactives—examine how play catalyzes creative expression, enchants the ordinary, and helps us understand ourselves in new ways.

Under the direction of the Interpretation Planner, the successful candidates will work closely with several departments including Guest Services, Education, Registration, Collection Management, Exhibition Planning, and Security. Candidates will play a key role in facilitating welcoming audience experiences by speaking with groups about the art in the exhibition, operating select works during demonstrations, assisting visitors in participating and interacting with objects, and performing preventative maintenance and general upkeep of the space.  This position will be required to attend one half-day orientation and one full-day training session in January, as well as ongoing training as needed. Dates to be determined.

The Exhibition Interpreter must be comfortable conversing with the general public and must have excellent problem solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations. A strong candidate will have a friendly, personable manner, an interest in contemporary art, and a passion for working with people.

Prior experience in education, customer service, or art handling preferred. Standing for extended periods and ability to lift 50 lbs required. 21-28 hours per week, Tuesday through Sunday. Weekend availability required. Additional hours for special programming may also apply.
