Position Focus: Reporting to the Nolen Curator of Education and Academic Affairs, the Bradley Assistant Curator of Academic Affairs leads the Gallery’s effort to foster teaching with the collections across the Yale curriculum. With a comprehensive and specialized knowledge of art history or related discipline in one or more of the gallery’s collection areas, this position conceives, implements, teaches, and facilitates Yale course sessions in the galleries and object study classrooms, working closely with faculty collaborators and relevant Gallery staff. This position develops events and programs that encourage and prepare faculty to teach with the collection, and collaborates with Education and Programs department colleagues to create public programs, adult learning opportunities, and co-curricular activities that build upon relationships with faculty and course collaborations.

Qualifications:

Demonstrated teaching skills at university level. Ability to teach cross-disciplinary studies across the Gallery’s collection areas. Well-developed written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate in a professional manner.
Ability to establish/maintain effective relationships w/ collaborators at Yale, in the field, and w/ diverse audiences. Ability to exercise excellent interpersonal skills and relate well to all kinds of people inside and outside of the museum/Yale. Positive attitude that supports dept. goals.
Proven ability to work well under pressure, juggle multiple tasks and meet demanding deadlines; demonstrated professionalism and flexibility in a busy multi-task environment. Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment, and to be a team player.
Ability to think strategically toward the Gallery’s long-range academic program and profile at the University. Ability to conceptualize steps involved in implementing programs and events as well as to see big picture.
Comprehensive and specialized knowledge of art history or related discipline in one or more of the gallery’s collection areas.
Preferred: Ph.D. and proven track record of scholarly achievement; three to five years related professional experience, preferably in a university museum.
