HSDA: Chelsea After School Program Oral Health Instruction

Last month, during HSDA’s event, first and second graders were split into groups of 5-8 with 2 volunteers each. There were approximately 35 students and 8 volunteers. In these groups, volunteers rotated between OHI games and general brushing and flossing instruction with the stuffed animals provided by Tufts. The games consisted of best foods for tooth, taste the rainbow, healthy teeth for happy smiles, and my perfect day.

The event was a huge success both for volunteers and students. Splitting the kids up into smaller groups allowed for more one-on-one interactions and facilitated participation. The games provided by Tufts were very interactive and educational and the kids loved it!

The event was spearheaded by HSDA Community Engagement Co-Chairs, Erika Magaña (D25) and Valquiria De Laurenzio (D26). HSDA is excited to continue to work with the Chelsea For Kids Only after school program in the near future. The students who participated in the event were student members: Franshesca Aliaga, Luke Menghi, Pamela Espinoza, Yudi Quintero, Bryce Pitts, Jorge Bacallao, Yesenia Reyes, and Valquiria De Laurenzio.
