Students, faculty, researchers or staff can submit a geospatial poster or web based project such as a StoryMap, Dashboard, Instant App or other application to the GIS Expo Event.
- You do not have to be in a GIS class to submit a geospatial project. Everyone is welcome to participate in the GIS Expo.
- There are no formal presentations at the GIS Poster Expo. Just explore the gallery and enjoy time with fellow Tufts GIS students, faculty, and staff along with professionals in the geospatial community
- Additionally, you do not need to be in attendance to have your project included in the GIS expo.
- You do not need to be in attendance to have your project displayed at the GIS expo! Data Lab staff take care of all the set up on the day of the event (students must print their posters ahead of time – see below).
- Excellent award prizes (see below) and great resume building event
AWARDS: There are multiple prizes awarded at the GIS Expo for intro level student projects and advanced level student projects. All submissions are automatically considered for awards. Award winners from the Tufts GIS expo will receive a cash prize ($100 for Best in Show, $50 for Runner Ups) and their projects will be brought to the ESRI Users Conference in San Diego in July to be part of their Map Gallery and competition.

Poster Submissions:
Guidelines & Requirements
Posters must be submitted and printed by Tuesday, May 6th, 2025 to be included in the GIS Expo and judging
Poster Size: Posters should be sized at 30 x 40 in. Portrait or landscape orientation is fine. Poster printing is free and posterboards are supplied at the Data Lab.
- Submit your poster using the GIS Project Metadata Form
- Make sure to check the box for “Include my project in the GIS Expo event”.
- Note: If you already submitted your GIS project in the metadata form, you can log in to view/edit your entry details or add another GIS project.
- Print & Mount your poster at the Tisch Data Lab when a Lab Assistant is on duty.
- A Lab Assistant will help trim your posters and then you will glue it onto provided posterboard.
- Put your poster on your class pile for the GIS Expo in the Tisch Data Lab
- Posters must be printed at least 1 day before the event, by end of day May 6th
- Data Lab staff will take care of transporting and setting up your poster on the day of the GIS Expo!
Web Based Projects:
Guidelines & Requirements
Web Based projects must be submitted by Sunday, May 4th, 2025 to be included in the judging and GIS Expo.
Format – A variety of web-based projects are supported including StoryMaps, Dashboards, Instant Apps, Experience Builders, etc.
- Submit your web project via GIS Project Metadata Form
- Make sure to check the box for “Include my project in the GIS Expo event”.
- Note: If you already submitted your GIS project in the metadata form, you can log in to view/edit your entry details or add another GIS project.
- Update the permissions to be publicly available
- If you are submitting an ESRI Application, please update the projects sharing permissions to public (with Everyone) in ArcGIS Online so it is accessible!
- Please note that with web based projects, you can continue to edit and build your application after submitting the project. However, we need to have access to a link and know who is submitting web-based projects, as the digital set up is more involved than the poster setup.
