Lieutenant Colonel Ari Martyn

Lieutenant Colonel Ari MartynLieutenant Colonel Ari Martyn is a US Army Infantry Officer and Army War College Fellow at the Fletcher School.  Originally from Natick, Massachusetts, he graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2004.  He has served in uniform for over 19 years, and been assigned throughout the US, Europe, and Asia.

Lt. Col. Martyn most recently commanded 1st Squadron (Airborne), 91st Cavalry, 173rd Airborne Brigade in Grafenwoehr, Germany.  Prior to command, he served as the Senior Planner at the US Army’s Ranger Regiment and then as a strategist on the Army Staff at the Pentagon.  He has deployed eleven times to Iraq and Afghanistan with mechanized, airborne, and special operations forces, and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal.

Ari holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from Peking University, and is fluent in Mandarin.  He is also conversant in German.

He and his wife, Heather, have two daughters.
