Exhibits Manager [Children’s Museum of Denver]

Full Time Exhibits Manager with demonstrated and effective personnel and project management abilities with a variety of teams, a key participant in the interpretation of educational goals into exemplary experiences through roles as developer, manager, evaluator and project and component lead.

Curator of Interpretation and Visitor Services [Hagley Museum and Library]

Curator of Interpretation & Visitor Services
Hagley seeks a creative, dynamic, highly organized individual to lead the interpretive programs produced by the museum.  This position is a key leadership position within the Museum Division and is responsible for creating and implementing the interpretive framework for our site and all of our public programs.  In addition, this position oversees all aspects of the visitor experience through the supervision of daily operations of the museum.  This position has the opportunity to shape the interpretation of our historic site and create educational programs for visitors of all ages.

Candidates should have a master’s degree in history, education, museum studies or a related field and at least five years of museum experience including management and supervisory responsibilities.  Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience in the development and evaluation of educational programs for a variety of audiences; the supervision and training of guides and volunteers, and the creation and management of budgets.  Additional experience in grant writing and knowledge of Mid-Atlantic or industrial American history a plus.

Director of Education & Programming [Waukesha County Museum]

The Waukesha County Museum is currently seeking a Director of Education & Programming to lead, develop, and grow its educational and programming initiatives as we implement a new strategic plan over the next few years. This exciting position will play a key role in developing engaging education programs and events that both educate and entertain a wide variety of audiences. Proven experience developing successful programs from youth to seniors is needed. Experience with scouting programs also beneficial. Experience developing new start-up programs that have gained grant support is a plus. An understanding of developing programs to meet state curriculum guidelines and how to establish contacts within educational institutions desired.

We are seeking an individual with energy, creativity, and an engaging public personality. This position will serve as the main “face” to schools, educators, community outreach programs, and guided tours. Gallery Director/Instructor [Baum Gallery, University of Central Arkansas]

The Position: Gallery Director/Lecturer. Full-time, ten-month position starting August 2011. Responsibilities include planning and preparing, in collaboration with art faculty, a series of diverse and innovative exhibitions and programs that serve the department, university, and state. Teach two courses in discipline in the academic year. Manage daily and long-term operation of the Baum Gallery, including exhibition installation, budgeting, public relations, and oversight of facilities, outreach activities, and supervision of student assistants. Support programming
through fundraising activities such as grant writing and membership drives.

Minimum Qualifications: Advanced degree in a visual arts discipline and previous museum or gallery experience. Experience with grant writing and fundraising.

Preferred Qualifications: Terminal degree in visual arts discipline and museum studies certificate or degree. A desirable candidate will have at least three years experience in successful gallery programming with considerable experience in the planning, coordination, and execution of exhibitions and related events. Teaching experience desired.

The Baum Gallery: The Baum Gallery of Fine Art is a 4,000 sq.ft. exhibit area organized in three adjoining galleries with 1,200 sq.ft. of separate exhibit preparation space. The gallery is located on the University of Central Arkansas campus in the McCastlain Hall complex. The gallery is staffed by the gallery director and six student assistants. The Department: The Department of Art in UCA’s College of Fine Arts and Communication offers the BFA in Studio Art with emphases in ceramics, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture and the BA in Art with emphases in art history, art education, and fine art. The department has 210 art majors and fourteen full-time and six part-time faculty; the Baum Gallery and the Black Box Student Gallery; an active visiting artist program; and endowed scholarship funds of over one million dollars. Managing Museum Educator [Metropolitan Museum of Art]

Managing Museum Educator

The Metropolitan Museum of Art seeks a Managing Museum Educator in the Education Department.  This position oversees gallery and studio experiences across audiences in a newly created division of the Education Department, reporting directly to the Chairman of Education. The Museum seeks an experienced Education leader who will serve as a key programmatic partner to the department head. As such, the successful candidate is responsible for strategic planning, conceptualization, development, and implementation of gallery-based and studio-based programs for all visitors, supervising staff for gallery programs, studio programs, programs for the disabled and other communities, and
audience-specific programs. This person will set goals in consultation with the department head and will ensure their accomplishment through exceptional supervision and mentoring of direct reports and the development of strategic interdepartmental collaborations within the Museum, as well as outside partnerships that advance the quality and variety of programs.

This position oversees and connects two crucial areas of museum experience- gallery learning and art making- in order to ensure their interrelationship and relevance for visitors of all ages. The successful candidate will bring new perspectives and innovations to the content and format of existing programs, and will engage new and broader audiences in in-depth, meaningful experiences around works of art. The training of teaching volunteers will be phased into this division and the position will ultimately be responsible for establishing and monitoring standards for quality teaching in collaboration with the volunteer organization.

The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic vision and goals for gallery and studio programs for all audiences and lead evaluation efforts to determine success. S/he will also assess content, formats, and audiences of existing programs, and propose innovations and initiatives to optimize offerings, in addition to establishing partnerships with key external organizations and/or leaders to develop dynamic collaborations, interdisciplinary approaches, and expanded audiences. Duties also include developing the division¹s annual budget, analyzing and making recommendations for fee-based programs and revenue targets, and working closely with the Development Department to secure program support. S/he will administer a large division and establish efficient processes and systems for program development and logistics, in addition to supervising a large staff and
instilling high performance levels and accountability. S/he will also represent the department head in high level meetings and external partnerships.

Successful candidates will have 7-10 years experience within an art museum, in addition to a strong, proven track record of developing and implementing high quality, innovative programs using original works of art in a museum setting and attracting broad and diverse audiences. S/he must have the ability to effectively manage and mentor a large staff
within a complex institutional environment and to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. Experience managing budgets and administrative functions, in addition to exceptional organizational skills and oral and written communications skills is required. M.A. in Art History, Museum Education, or other related field, or related experience is required. Must have knowledge of and experience with studio practice and contemporary artists in addition to knowledge of and demonstrated ability in gallery teaching and pedagogy.
