The Position: Gallery Director/Lecturer. Full-time, ten-month position starting August 2011. Responsibilities include planning and preparing, in collaboration with art faculty, a series of diverse and innovative exhibitions and programs that serve the department, university, and state. Teach two courses in discipline in the academic year. Manage daily and long-term operation of the Baum Gallery, including exhibition installation, budgeting, public relations, and oversight of facilities, outreach activities, and supervision of student assistants. Support programming
through fundraising activities such as grant writing and membership drives.
Minimum Qualifications: Advanced degree in a visual arts discipline and previous museum or gallery experience. Experience with grant writing and fundraising.
Preferred Qualifications: Terminal degree in visual arts discipline and museum studies certificate or degree. A desirable candidate will have at least three years experience in successful gallery programming with considerable experience in the planning, coordination, and execution of exhibitions and related events. Teaching experience desired.
The Baum Gallery: The Baum Gallery of Fine Art is a 4,000 sq.ft. exhibit area organized in three adjoining galleries with 1,200 sq.ft. of separate exhibit preparation space. The gallery is located on the University of Central Arkansas campus in the McCastlain Hall complex. The gallery is staffed by the gallery director and six student assistants. The Department: The Department of Art in UCA’s College of Fine Arts and Communication offers the BFA in Studio Art with emphases in ceramics, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture and the BA in Art with emphases in art history, art education, and fine art. The department has 210 art majors and fourteen full-time and six part-time faculty; the Baum Gallery and the Black Box Student Gallery; an active visiting artist program; and endowed scholarship funds of over one million dollars.
