About YoungArts:
YoungArts is the core program of the National Foundation for Advancement in
the Arts (NFAA), founded in 1981 by businessman and visionary, the late Ted
Arison, and his wife Lin. The organization¹s mission is to identify the
next generation of emerging artists in the visual, literary and performing
arts, to provide educational enrichment and assistance in their pursuit of
the arts, and to raise the appreciation for and support of the arts in
American society.

During YoungArts Week, held in Miami each January for 150 young artists
selected through a nationwide search of thousands of applicants through an
intensive adjudication process, the YoungArts national finalists experience
life-changing workshops and master classes with such renowned master
teachers as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Martin Scorsese and Quincy Jones, as well
as major performance and exhibition opportunities, networking and access to
significant scholarships.

YoungArts is expanding these kinds of experiences across the country,
beginning in New York and Los Angeles.  Additionally, at the request of The
Commission on Presidential Scholars, which is appointed by the President of
the United States, NFAA serves as the exclusive nominating agency for the
U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts, the highest honor given to high
school seniors for artistic, academic and extracurricular achievement.

The YoungArts program has honored over 16,000 young artists with more than
$6 million in monetary awards and nearly $84 million in college scholarship
opportunities.  Alumni go on to become leading professionals in their
fields.  Alumni include Emmy-nominated actress Vanessa Williams, four-time
Tony Award nominee Raúl Esparza, star of HBO¹s Entourage Adrian Grenier,
Warner Bros. recording artist Josh Groban, Executive Director of the
American Ballet Theatre Rachel Moore, actress Kerry Washington and
internationally acclaimed multimedia artist Doug Aitken.

Some of YoungArts’ work is featured in its Emmy-nominated HBO series
entitled MASTERCLASS, which is based on renowned masters working with
YoungArts alumni to teach guiding principles. The first HBO season of
MASTERCLASS featured artists including Plácido Domingo, Frank Gehry,
Michael Tilson Thomas, Liv Ullmann, Bill T. Jones, Julian Schnabel and
Edward Albee.  Season two filming is currently underway with another
exciting season of prominent masters.

YoungArts is in the final stages of its project working with Columbia
University¹s Teachers College to develop a Study Guide based on the
YoungArts MASTERCLASS series to help increase arts education and awareness
for use in schools across the country.
