The museum technician performs museum preservation tasks; identifies preservation needs and recommends additional actions. Places objects in storage, maintaining the organization already established by the supervisor. Implements museum maintenance schedules and assists in museum preservation tasks in museum collection storage. Implements museum environmental monitoring program. This includes gathering data, maintaining the monitoring equipment, and preparing permanent data records. Assists with the installation, repair, and rehabilitation of exhibits. Performs support tasks like inventory and ordering supplies; manages computer equipment, including hardware, software, and databases.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement, Saturday, December 15, 2012. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sectors.
QUALIFICATIONS: To be eligible for this position, you must possess the qualifying specialized experience and/or education as described in the occupational/assessment questionnaire and as outlined below.
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in the Federal service to include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material; OR
B. Completed a four year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as art, history, museum studies, or scientific subjects; OR
C. Combination of education and experience – specialized experience as described in A above and education as described in B above, which when combined totals 100%.
