Cranbrook Institute of Science is seeking a Museum Educator/Scout Coordinator. The Museum Educator/Scout Coordinator will be responsible for development, facilitation and upkeep of scout, outreach, camp and other educational programs and materials for the museum. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Develop and deliver educational programs related to assigned area of science and/or program expertise for the Education Department; train all full-time and part-time staff in facilitation of scout, outreach, and summer camp programs; attend meetings/facilitate lectures aligned with science area of expertise; communicate with schedulers and leaders for all pre-planning of programs; represent the Education Department at professional meetings and teacher’s in-service and/or training conferences; assist in research and preparation of grant proposals for the Education Department when required; data collection and all reports related to scout and camp programs and department events; assist schedulers to fill registrations for programs; present other programs, including school groups and special events on a regular basis; must be available for weekend special events as needed.
Requirements: Undergraduate degree in an area of science or education; knowledge of science concepts, with in-depth background in one or more disciplines; a minimum of three years experience developing curriculum for and teaching a variety of ages, both formal and informal; experience with presentations with groups of various sizes; strong organizational skills; must be willing to try new ideas to keep up with current developments in teacher education; a valid Michigan Driver license with satisfactory driving record required.
