The ICA is accepting applications from experienced teaching artists to lead offsite workshops for groups of children and youth between the ages of 6—18 at our partner site, Boston Children’s Hospital. We seek enthusiastic, creative and caring individuals to design and deliver strong experiential learning opportunities through contemporary art and art making. This program partnership aims to support the well-being of the whole child, providing enriching hands-on experiences that offer opportunities for hope, healing, and inspiration within the hospital setting.
Responsibilities:
- Design and/or adapt existing lesson plans connected to contemporary art at the ICA for groups of children receiving treatment at Children’s Hospital. All lesson plans must meet specific hospital and patient requirements. as outlined by Children’s Hospital.
- Remain up to date on exhibitions and programs at the ICA in order to answer questions from patients.
- Meet with Director of Education in person on a monthly basis to finalize curricula.
- Transport all workshop supplies from museum to hospital site(s).
- Work closely with Education Assistant to maintain supplies of materials, schedule workshops, maintain budget, and report participation numbers.
- Meet all health screening requirements set by Children’s Hospital Boston—i.e. up to date immunization records.
- Comply with all teaching standards outlined in the ICA’s handbook for working with youth.
- Represent the ICA in a professional manner in related meetings and workshops.
Qualifications:
- BA or BFA in arts education, studio art, or related humanities degree, or equivalent experience required.
- 2+ years of experience working in the visual arts with children and youth necessary. Some experience working with teens required.
- Teaching experience within a health care facility highly desired.
- Experience writing and delivering art lessons for children and youth necessary.
- Ability to work with children and youth with physical and socio-emotional differences.
- Knowledge of contemporary art practices.
- Comply with CORI background check.
- Ability to transport and carry art supplies (50lbs.)
