The Associate Director for Continuing Education at the New-York Historical
Society is responsible for the conception, development, implementation,
supervision, and evaluation of a suite of continuing education programs on
topics pertaining to the exhibitions and collections of the New-York
Historical Society as they relate to New York and American history in all
facets as well as the arts. Target audiences will include, but not
necessarily be limited to: teachers, school leaders, post-secondary
students, colleges and universities, retired education professionals,
community organizations, and museum members.

*Major Responsibilities*

Responsibilities for this position include but may not be limited to:
Working in collaboration with the Director of Education, Education Division
staff, museum staff and consultants as needed, create a stimulating program
of workshops and seminars for a broad audience€ Supervise all educational
programs for adult and post-secondary learners€ Manage all programs and
events for teachers, including private and open enrollment € Oversee the
development and implementation of professional development workshops,
lectures, credit-bearing courses, institutes, and special events, including
but not limited to:o Serve as primary instructor for teacher programs o
Develop a roster of staff, scholars, and specialists to lead workshops and
programs.o Develop new workshops and programs for teachers and when
possible a public audience o Research, write, and lead P-Credit courses for
teachers o Manage calendar of workshops o In collaboration with Division
staff, create calendar of open enrollment opportunities for teachers and
menu of private workshop options each academic year o Oversee all
scheduling and logistics for continuing education programs o Serve as
Education Division liaison to the NYC Department of Education broadly, and
the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development and the
After School Professional Development Program specifically, including
attending all necessary meetings and maintaining relationships with key
staff members o Plan, coordinate, and teach citywide professional
development days o Organize open house and other special events for
teachers and other groupso Coordinate with outside
organizations/individuals on special workshops and events for teachers and
others€ Work with the Manager of School Programs to develop and lead
Educator and Teaching Artist trainings€ Research, develop, and deliver new
programs for adults, including retired teachers and administrators€ Develop
and manage partnerships with colleges, universities, and community
organizations€ Evaluate all programs to ensure high-quality sessions and
participant satisfaction€ Work closely with staff leading and/or supporting
continuing education programs to communicate all relevant information and
ensure program success€ Coordinate with Education Marketing Coordinator and
Communications Department to conceive of strategic marketing plan for
existing and new programs to increase attendance€ Contribute content to
relevant marketing materials, including website and Facebook€ Contribute to
grant proposals, programs, and reports as required € Liaise with other
departments within the institution on programming, scheduling, etc.€ Lead
programs for students as needed€ Represent institution and division at
conferences, fairs, and meetings on an as-needed basis

events€ Work collaboratively with Division staff on various programs and

*Qualifications:*

Knowledge and Skill Requirements: € Master¹s Degree in U.S. History or a
related field required € Proven record of success in developing new
educational programs/initiatives € Creative thinker with ability to
innovate within parameters € Minimum five years experience leading programs
for adult learners required € Experience leading programs focused on museum
collections and exhibitions € Ability to work independently and as a member
of a team, ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines € Excellent
written and verbal communication skills € Must be highly organized and
detail oriented € Extensive knowledge of the New York City Department of
Education preferred € Knowledge of the NYS Social Studies Scope and
Sequence & Common Core State Standards for Literacy in History Essential
Physical Functions: Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
