To plan, facilitate, and supervise all aspects of Museum exhibitions, publications, and design endeavors.
Set goals and priorities for the Exhibitions and Design department, working with the Deputy Director.
Structure and manage exhibition, design, and publication staff, programs, and approval processes for the Museum.
Approve departmental budgets, employment related activities (including timesheets, PTO/sick time, performance evaluations, hire and discipline) as well as orders for equipment.
Supervise the development of exhibitions, design, and publications from the initial proposal state through planning, installation, and completion, including coordination of cross-departmental responsibilities.
Prepare for Deputy Director’s approval all exhibition, installation, and publication layouts, graphics, budgets and contracts, and meet regularly with Deputy Director in issues pertaining to department.
Approve and maintain the definitive Museum schedule of exhibitions, installations, and publications.
Craft and review all internal and legal contracts and letters of agreement for exhibitions and publications and assure implementation and compliance with the terms and conditions of all contracts/agreements; supervise work of contractors in exhibitions, design, and publications as necessary.
Oversee exhibition checklist and catalogue development, credit lines, and titles.
Serve as primary contact between internal Museum departments and participating Museum and guest curators regarding exhibition and publication planning and status.
Develop and manage all aspects of an exhibition, publication and design budgets, and approve all expenditures and transfers for the department.
Assure that all exhibitions, design, and publications produced by, for, and about the Saint Louis Art Museum provide a consistent image that accurately reflects the Museum’s high standards of education, scholarship, and community service.
Job Requirements
Required: Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred. Minimum 5 years leadership experience in a museum or art-related institution, including staff management and exhibition, publication, and design planning. Knowledge of national and international exhibition collaborations, budgeting, and contracts is necessary. Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational abilities, and computer skills associated with the field. Proven supervisory and interpersonal skills are essential.
