AFMO’s Worldwide Director of Development based in New York City is looking for a fall intern. This would be a great opportunity for a college student or recent graduate, ideally having studied or with ambitions to work in arts/cultural management and administration and fundraising, who is interested in gaining experience in fund development in NY and on a nationwide basis for museums and international cultural institutions. The ideal candidate would also have an interest in France and French culture and art. Experience studying abroad or living in France preferred. French language skills would be appreciated.

Experience (at least familiarity) desired:
– Experience doing research on individuals and their philanthropic activity as well as determining giving potential
– Experience researching corporate giving by companies which support cultural institutions locally, nationally and internationally.
– Experience researching foundations that could potentially support AFMO’s mission of exhibition program, education, conservation of the collection, and the modernizing of its galleries
– Compiling data gathered into a usable format for prospect files for individuals, companies and foundations
– Solid experience in office administration and competency in clerical and organizational work
– Must be able to competently proofread documents, letters, and email correspondence.
– French speaker preferred but not required; Fluency in French a definite plus.
– Knowledge of MS Office applications including and Excel;
– Experience with DonorSnap database a plus, or familiarity with donor databases generally speaking is very desirable
Responsibilities associated with the position include, but not limited to the following:
– Assisting the Worldwide Director of Development with various administrative tasks, development oriented work such as aforementioned research and data compilation and entry
– Clerical duties as needed and requested by Director of Development, including mailings, filing, photocopying and general organization of the office.
-Assisting with preparing and running special events
-Proofreading and editing written materials
This internship is unpaid but AFMO will cover a monthly MTA card for interns working 2+ days/week. The intern will also gain invaluable not-for profit/small business experience in the NY and international non-profit sector, particularly in fundraising for an iconic international museum, as well as general office skills.
