Senior Director of Development [Computer History Museum]

Located in the Silicon Valley, the Computer History Museum is capturing the stories and artifacts of the computer age and interpreting the history, impact, and implications of the technological revolution to a global audience. Like the technology it celebrates, the Computer History Museum is young and constantly evolving. Founded in Massachusetts in 1979, the Museum eventually gravitated to the West Coast, home to the computer industry’s innovators and trendsetters, and made Silicon Valley its home in 1999.

In a relatively short period of time, the Computer History Museum has seen great success and continues to be on an upward trajectory. Its first capital campaign surpassed $100 million dollars and was completed in 2012. The museum is now in a “bridge phase” – focused on expanding the donor base, building a robust annual fund, raising money for specific projects and exhibits, and looking to its next major campaign launching within the next 3 years.

The Computer History Museum seeks an energetic, creative and entrepreneurial professional with a successful track record in major gifts fundraising. The Senior Director of Development, reporting to the Vice President of Development, will be responsible for the success of the major gifts program including the identification, cultivation and solicitation of major gifts, and leadership of the major gifts strategy. The Senior Director’s primary goal will be to design and implement strategies and tactics to increase annual individual unrestricted support from major gift donors ($25,000+) from $400,000 annually to approximately $600-$800,000 over the next two years and to help build relationships with current and new individual donors with the potential to support the Museum’s priority programs, exhibitions, and collecting initiatives. The new Senior Director of Development will help build capacity and plan the Museum’s next capital campaign; anticipated to start by 2017 with a target of $40-60 million dollars.
