Job Description
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts seeks an entrepreneurial, highly organized, people and results oriented professional to lead the marketing and communications efforts for one of the leading regional museums in the country. Reporting to the Deputy Director for Resources and Visitor Experience, the Director will plan, develop, implement and evaluate creative, strategic marketing plans for museum programs, products and services and work across museum departments to ensure consistent messaging and identity throughout the institution. This position will also leverage partnerships with regional, statewide and national cultural, tourism and marketing colleagues to promote VMFA as widely as possible. In addition to managing marketing and communications, both internal and external, this position will oversee group sales, performing arts and audience development.
Job Requirements
The selected candidate will be a strategic thinker with considerable experience developing and implementing an integrated marketing and communications program. He/she will have a demonstrated record of success in rolling out creative campaigns and will be skilled in brand management. He/she will be well versed in all forms of media and skilled in the use of direct e-mail, interactive/online marketing, sponsorships and guerilla marketing /promotional tactics. He/she will possess exceptional interpersonal communication and leadership skills; budget development and management experience; and a successful record of building community, corporate and promotional partnerships. Bachelor’s degree required. MBA or masters degree preferred in Advertising, Marketing, Communications or related field. Must have at least 8-10 years of relevant experience.
