Description

The Collections Manager is a full-time position held by an individual with collections care experience to handle the management and registration duties of a growing academic museum collection and dynamic exhibitions program at the Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art. The Museum Registrar’s primary duty will be to manage the care and logistics of the permanent and campus collections. Additional duties include assisting with temporary domestic and international loans including shipping, insurance, and storage, and assisting in overseeing the installations for all exhibition spaces. The Registrar will help administer the Museum’s mission and vision, and its policies and protocols.
Preferred experience in non-profit, cultural, or arts industries, Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, art history, museum studies or related field from an accredited college or university, and 3-5 years of relevant collections experience preferred.

  • Must be extremely organized and computer literate, with a working knowledge of TMS software.
  • Experience with collections management databases.
  • Ability to handle and balance substantial research and administrative detail and a wide variety of related tasks
  • Ability to communicate and deal effectively with people and to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
  • Possess familiarity working with a variety of objects and experience working with modern and contemporary art practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manage all aspects of collection care and management including the following:
      • Care and control of collections on site.
      • Location and movement of objects.
      • Monitor collection storage.
      • Engage in risk management.
      • Carry out inventories and audits.
      • Carry out condition reports and document objects.
    • Process all new acquisitions, and submit appropriate information to the Office of Advancement, Business Services, Asset Management, and KSU Foundation.
    • Manage all rights and reproduction requests.
    • Assist with coordination of traveling exhibition logistics, including but not limited to: crating, shipping, couriers, condition reporting, installation & de-installation.
    • Coordinate outside services, including conservation, framing, appraisal, etc.
    • In coordination with the Exhibit Specialist, develop and update facility reports, monitors environmental conditions, and ensures pest management.
    • Supervise collection interns.
    • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding the permanent collection.
    • Carries out special projects as assigned.
    • This position requires driving to event sites and multi campus locations.
