Description

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, a leading nonprofit membership organization, located in Washington, D.C. announces an immediate opening for an Assistant Curator of Education in the Museum Department.  The Assistant reports to the Museum Director/Chief Curator and works with curatorial and collections management staff to inform the public about the museum’s collection, exhibits and mission through engaging programs, interesting activities and creative use of technology.

The Assistant Curator of Education will work closely with the Curator of Education to develop and maintain interpretive materials, to initiate strategies that improve visitor experience; to plan and to run all internal educational programs, including scout and other public programs and/or docent training. The Assistant will work with Curators to develop new digital programs; manage all museum social media platforms, including leading social media planning and writing content for all platforms, and to monitor and analyze social media metrics to assess its overall effectiveness.

Requirements

Position Requirements:

Education:

  • BA or MA in History, Museum Education or Museum Studies.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Previous museum experience in digital education and social media as it is applied to museum outreach, and carrying out education programs with adult and youth audiences;
  • Experience conducting tours;
  • Knowledge of current museum education standards and best practices;
  • Ability to effectively plan curricula and run educational programs;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, including working in team situations;
  • Advanced skills in managing, developing and maintaining digital media products; excellent writing and editing content skills for all social media platforms;
  • Advanced organizational skills and ability to exercise excellent judgment and discretion;
  • Knowledge of American history and decorative arts is a plus.
