Description

The Board of Directors of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library Foundation invites nominations and applications for its inaugural Chief Executive Officer to lead the planning, funding, building, and operation of a new presidential library honoring the 26th president of the United States of America. The TRPLF, a newly formed 501.c.3, is governed by a 13-member board comprising civic, business, academic, and philanthropic leaders from the region and across the nation. The CEO, reporting to the chairman, will oversee permanent and contract staff expected to number in the range of 25-46 individuals who will comprise the executive, digital experience, educational enrichment, museum experience, and outreach teams.

The successful candidate will be a proven leader with strong executive and fundraising skills who is both inspired by the vision of creating the 14th presidential library in the U.S. and ready to assume the challenges and opportunities of a start-up. He or she will bring at least 10 or more years of prior success in executive leadership roles as a college or university president, foundation president, advancement vice president, or leader of a major cultural, civic, or business organization in the U.S. or abroad. Fundraising success, with an initial goal of $70 million for construction, endowment, and start-up operations, will be a critical first step in bringing the vision for the new presidential library alive. Initial support of $15 million has already been committed by the North Dakota legislature and the City of Dickinson, where the library will be built. The city, where TR owned two ranches nearby, is also a gateway to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. President Roosevelt, who spent several years in the state, once said “It was here that the romance of my life began,” and later noted, “I never would have been President had it not been for my experiences in North Dakota.”

Nominators and prospective candidates are invited to review the comprehensive search profile at www.agbsearch.om/current-searches for more information and background on the vision, history, setting, and governance of the project.

A letter of interest responding to the “Key Attributes and Expectations of Leadership” outlined in the profile, a current resume, and contact information for 3-5 professional references are required. Applications should be addressed to Members of the Search Committee and sent electronically (in MS Word or Adobe PDF) to: TRPLF@agbsearch.com. Nominations and applications will be accepted until an appointment is made, but candidates should submit materials by April 22, 2016 for best consideration. Application materials of all candidates or nominees for this position are a matter of public record in accordance with the open meetings-open records statutes and policies of the State of North Dakota.

The new CEO will assume office on or about July 1, 2016, or sooner if available. The search is being assisted by Vance T. Peterson, Consultant, AGB Search, 818-304-5233 or vtp@agbsearch.com.
