Description

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Represent and convey mission of the traveling exhibit and the Hall of Fame to visitors, media, and traveling exhibit staff
  • Handle artifacts and perform installation/deinstallation of artifacts as necessary during the run of the traveling exhibit
  • Complete and maintain records regarding condition reporting of artifacts during entire run of the Tour, as well as environmental/security monitoring
  • Maintain and update all content (text, graphics, audio and video) for AV, interactive, and other changing elements of the traveling exhibit
  • Complete and maintain all records regarding on-going maintenance and trouble-shooting of the exhibition during entire run of tour
  • Help create and undertake educational and programming events, for visitors and special events
  • Oversee and train docents and volunteers
  • Manage off-season refurbishment and preparation for following season’s Tour

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain and update aspects of information management for tour (meeting notes, draft scripts, artifact databases, etc.)
  • Write about the tour and its content for various HOF outlets, including the HOF website, social media channels, mobile applications, and various HOF print publications.
  • Work in Cooperstown when not needed on the road or elsewhere, performing other duties as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION – Undergraduate degree required, Graduate degree in history or museum studies preferred (or equivalent experience in a museum setting)

EXPERIENCE – One to three years curatorial experience preferred, experience with travelling exhibitions a plus

ABILITIES –

  • Excellent knowledge of baseball history.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including both research and writing
  • Work as a team member.
  • Outstanding organizational skills, including the ability to set, maintain, and meet deadlines.
  • Sound judgment.
  • Interest in and commitment to the mission of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Ability to lift 60 lbs. and perform repetitive actions over time.

TYPICAL EQUIPMENT USED: Ability to operate a computer and use general word processing and database programs; ability to use a scanner and photocopier; ability to operate a digital camera

Requirements
  • The employee is expected to travel with the exhibit for the run of the show. The show starts in June 2016, and thereafter for the next five years will travel from March through October to major and minor league baseball parks and other exhibition areas within those cities. The exhibit will change venues every two to three weeks. From November through February each year, the employee will be based and work out of Cooperstown.
