Position Summary
Student Outreach and Programming Coordinator

As part of the Princeton University Art Museum’s mission to bring the visual arts to the heart of the Princeton University experience for students and the wider community, the Student Outreach and Programming Coordinator (SOPC) develops strategies for integrating the museum and its collections into the life of every Princeton student, including managing the Student Advisory Board and Student Guide programs. Reporting to the Manager of Student and Community Outreach the incumbent collaborates with Education, Curatorial, Institutional Advancement, and Communications staff to conceive, implement, and oversee Museum public programs.

The SOPC recruits students to be tour guides and for the Student Advisory Board and engages them over their four years at Princeton, serving as a mentor by providing guidance and support. The Student Outreach Coordinator helps students become leaders. The Coordinator develops relationships, helping students feel connected to the Museum and valued and supported in their volunteer efforts. The incumbent advocates on behalf of the students while ensuring that they understand the Museum’s mission, goals, guidelines, and rules. They must stay abreast of students’ ever-changing social preferences and behaviors in order to create programs that will appeal to each new generation. The SOPC serves as a primary liaison to faculty and academic departments and programs to develop Museum programs designed to connect to the curriculum and engage all disciplines. The Coordinator helps manage logistics of Summer Internship Program, including coordinating weekly lunches with staff and trip to New York City.

The SOPC works with other members of the Museum staff to develop, plan, implement, and promote a robust schedule of Museum programs designed to attract a diverse audience while privileging those that appeal to the University community and/or effectively build bridges between the University’s academic life and the broader public. The Coordinator works with campus and community partners to ensure that these goals are met. Event responsibilities include, but are not limited to; negotiating contracts, selecting and ordering food and beverages, arranging audio visual services, booking performers, coordinating transportation and lodging for speakers and performers, hiring and supervising caterers and other professionals, coordinating logistics for all on and off-site programs and clearly communicating details to necessary parties, acting as host/hostess at programs, greeting and welcoming guests and managing the overall visitor experience. The Student Outreach Coordinator organizes all logistics for academic programs such as lectures, panel discussions, film screenings, symposia, etc.

The SOPC calculates budgets and ensures that they are adhered to and coordinates and monitors event timelines to ensure deadlines are met. The incumbent coordinates collection and delivery of data to communications in a timely manner for event publicity. The Coordinator pays vendors, arranges for honoraria, purchases supplies, and processes financial transactions.

Essential Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree
-2-5 years Museum or Higher Education experience, preferably working with undergraduates
-Excellent written, verbal, and social media communication skills
-Project and budget management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
-Proven ability to work as part of a team and to foster collaboration
-Strong organization and planning skills
-Capacity to read situations and people [emotional intelligence]
-Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize
-Proven success in fostering relationships
-Experience working directly with undergraduates
-Ability to take initiative, problem solve, and work independently
-Detail and deadline-oriented
-Demonstrated ability to be calm and personable under pressure
-Ability to interact and get along with all levels of staff and management
-Creative thinker with ability to “think outside the box”
-Must be willing to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
-Must be proficient in email, word processing, spreadsheets, power point and social media platforms

The final candidate will be required to complete a background check successfully.
