Description

Birthplace of Country Music, Inc. (BCM) in Bristol, TN/VA seeks a Curator of Collections for its Birthplace of Country Music Museum. This will be a full-time, exempt, position reporting to the Museum Director.  BCM operates a popular, interactive museum (which opened in August of 2014), produces an annual music festival, and operates a multichannel radio station in addition to other activities (see www.birthplaceofcountrymusic.org for more information).   This person will be responsible for managing all of BCM’s collections and digital media.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Art, History, or Appalachian Studies.
  • Three years minimum experience in collections management preferred.
  • Experience with the care and handling of legacy audiovisual collections, instrument collections, and vintage audio playback equipment desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and apply for grants plus grant-writing experience preferable.
  • Excellent communications (written and oral) skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Must be personable and able to relate well with BCM staff, board members, donors and other individuals and groups
  • Should have excellent basic computer skills with collections and digital media software knowledge desirable
  • Must be flexible, able to multi-task, and able to adapt to changing priorities
  • Self-starter with initiative, common sense, and good decision-making skills
