Description

This position helps to serve and strengthen the teaching mission of the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art. The successful candidate will have a deep commitment to object-based learning, interdisciplinary teaching, and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues in the Museum and across the university campus. Reporting to the Director of Education, the Curatorial Coordinator for Academic Programs is part of a team that carries out the teaching mission of the Museum and implements new strategies to encourage use of the Museum in creative ways. The Curatorial Coordinator will work with a broad constituency of faculty and instructors to co-develop and co-teach museum sessions for a wide range of university classes—primarily single-visit sessions—using original works of art and exhibitions for curricular support.

Responsibilities include facilitating use of collections and scheduling class visits to the Museum; pulling works of art for class visits; and supervising student interns.  The Coordinator will meet with faculty and instructors to clarify goals and learning outcomes for class visits; suggest appropriate art works for museum sessions; help develop content for class sessions; and assess class sessions with input from faculty and students. The Coordinator will also liaise with curatorial staff to provide access to works of art selected for class sessions, and update location records with the help of student interns.
