Job Summary:
Otis College of Art and Design is currently accepting applications for a Curatorial/Programming Coordinator. The Curatorial/Programming Coordinator supports management with administrative planning, organizing, and producing of exhibitions, events, and other related programming for the College’s gallery. The Coordinator liaises with other College departments, external agencies/artists, and organizations as assigned. Evening and weekend hours may be required on occasion to meet operational needs. This is a 2-year, fixed-term position. This position reports directly to the Director of Galleries and Exhibitions.

Responsibilities:
– Provides a wide variety of administrative support to the Director. Conducts research on potential exhibitions which may include studio visits and interacting with artists on the production of new work. Coordinates the review of artist submitted materials.
– Helps with researching topics and background information, writing, editing, and publishing educational and promotional materials for exhibitions (i.e., brochures, informational wall labels, press releases, web listings, Wikipedia pages, etc.)
– Assists Director with developing, organizing, and producing public programs to accompany exhibitions. Coordinates lectures, symposia, performances, and workshops.
– Assists gallery personnel prepare loan agreements, condition reports, and other transaction records to ensure legal compliance with regulatory policies and procedures. Helps process and track administrative paperwork such as purchase orders, disbursements, estimates, invoices, etc. Helps maintain files of all documents related to all loans, agreements, contracts, permits, and other transactions.
– Assists with exhibition preparations and other logistics. Helps organize, install, and/or de-install exhibitions.
– Performs administrative duties associated with scheduling and coordinating and planning special events (i.e., opening receptions, public programs, etc.) Gathers and organizes supporting information/supplies, tracks expenditures, and/or oversees production and distribution of materials. May arrange with vendors for services, site, facilities, catering, etc. Attends functions to ensure satisfactory outcome.
– Serves as a gallery liaison to faculty, student committees, art and community leaders to facilitate communication and engagement. Helps develop communication plans for exhibits, events, and/or other projects.
– May conduct public tours of exhibitions and/or make presentations to classes and/or other groups to explain collection(s) upon request.
– Coordinates work schedule with other office staff to ensure gallery coverage during open hours, during special events/programs, and for unplanned gallery hours.
– Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Art History, Curatorial Studies, Museum Studies or Education, Social Practice, Critical Theory is preferred. Individuals should have a serious interest in contemporary art, ideally pursuing a career in museums or cultural/visual arts organizations. Strong research, writing, and editing skills are required. Preference will be given to candidates who can read/write fluently in both English and Spanish. Strong communication, writing, proofreading, typing,time management, computer knowledge (Excel, Word, Outlook Express), and organizational skills are required. Individual must be self-motivated, punctual, and detail-oriented. Individual must be able to address fast-changing priorities, work effectively and collaboratively with diverse campus and public communities. Installation/preparation experience highly desired. Work experience in Museum, Art Gallery, or Visual Arts Space preferred.
